Lho Lungkar Monastery Monastic School

Lho Lungkar Monastic School

Lho Lungkar Monastery is a Drikung Kagyu institution located in Kham (Eastern Tibet) in what is now Yushu Prefecture, Qinghai Province.  The Monastery's monastic school houses sixty monks, ages eight to eighteen.  Some of these students are orphans adopted by the monastery or children whose families live far away from the school.  Other students come from nomadic families and are either the first in their families to get an education or one of the few.

Currently the monastic school has no steady source of income and must rely on donations from individuals.  Rent from the projected construction of five stores and income from programs at the Community Cultural Center will generate an estimated $1,310.00 per month, enough to pay for all the students' food and the salaries of the teachers and a few other employees at the school. The teachers overseeing these students' education and care have many hopes for their futures.  Whether they remain at the monastery and continue on through college or follow another path, a well education population will benefit the future of not only the monastery but the Tibetan people as a whole.

Drikung Pe-Tsek Nang-Cho Lob-Ling Academy

Drikung Pe-Tsek Nang-Cho Lob-Ling Academy is located in Rewalsar, Northern India, also known as Tso Pema, Lotus Lake.  The original Monastery was constructed in 1971 and today is the home to approximately seventy-five monks, nuns and a voluntary staff.  The ages range from the youngest being four years of age to the oldest monk who is seventy-five years old.

Similar to Lho Lungkar Monastery and other Monasteries throughout these regions, most of the monks are orphans or come from families that cannot afford to clothe, feed or provide educational needs.  All monks from the Himalayan region regardless of their background are welcomed.

The current plans for expansion, Click Here, will include housing to accommodate up to 150 monks, 6 classrooms, a computer room, library and a free medical clinic that will be available to everyone in this remote community.

Your donations to these projects will help both of these communities not only become self sufficient and produce healthy, educated individuals, but will also serve their communities through providing the urgent medical care that is greatly needed.
